THE WORDPAPER NOTEBOOK · 04
Trace a little. Then try without the model.
Chinese writing practice is easier to fit into a day when the list is short and meaningful. Start with three to five words from something you recently read or heard. A worksheet can organise the practice; use a teacher or trusted dictionary to check unfamiliar forms and stroke order.
A ten-minute practice plan
- Read and check · 2 minutes. Say each word and check its meaning. Review the pinyin, especially characters with several readings. For 银行, the reading is yín háng; in 行走, 行 is xíng.
- Trace and copy · 3 minutes. Choose one tracing copy and one blank row. Look at the whole word before copying it. Use the grid to compare the spacing of components.
- Recall · 3 minutes. Cover the model or print a blank grid page. Write the word from a meaning or a spoken prompt.
- Check · 2 minutes. Compare your result with the original. Circle one specific difference, such as a missing stroke or an off-centre component. Revisit that word in a later session.
Try a small word list
These buttons put examples into the import box. They do not replace your current worksheet until you choose Replace words.
| Word | Pinyin | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 你好 | nǐ hǎo | hello |
| 谢谢 | xiè xie | thank you |
| 再见 | zài jiàn | goodbye |
Adjust the help as you go
For a first attempt, keep pinyin and meanings visible and use larger cells. For a later session, hide pinyin and reduce tracing copies. When you can write a word from memory, use it in a short sentence outside the worksheet. Repeated copying alone does not show whether you can recall or use a word.
Is this a stroke-order tutor?
No. Wordpaper shows character models, tracing copies and grid guides. It does not animate strokes or judge your handwriting. Check stroke order separately before tracing an unfamiliar character.
Should I practise individual characters or whole words?
A word list keeps pronunciation and meaning together. You can still enter single characters on separate lines when working on their structure. Add your own gloss so you know which reading you intend.
Use the Chinese character practice sheet generator above to make the page, then follow the PDF printing guide to keep a copy.
